HUMAN RELATIONS: NAVIGATING BETWEEN FREEDOM, AUTHENTICITY, AND THE MIRACLES OF EXISTENCE

“In the blind acceptance of life’s certainties, we build cages around our essence, transforming ourselves into mere shadows of the grand complexity that life offers. Let us free ourselves, challenge the supposed truths, and as we enter the vastness of possibilities, let us confront not only beauty but also the daunting uncertainty. For it is in the relentless pursuit of truth that we delve into the depths of our existence, exploring the intricate possibilities that compose the human essence. On this endless journey, we discover the reason for so much uncertainty, finding that the true essence of life lies in the courageous acceptance that reality is simply our own construction.” (Marcello de Souza)

We are beings inherently connected to each other, immersed in a constant flow of affections. These relationships not only shape the characteristics of our world but also transcend conventional paths, expressing themselves uniquely in our behaviors. The entirety of our consciousness is a construction that emerges from these affections. Thought, as both builder and constructor of knowledge, not only builds our consciousness but is also nourished by the complexity of emotions. It is not by chance that the restlessness of thought becomes the driving force of destabilization. Perhaps that’s why I suggest to you: Be wary if your consciousness does not stir your affections! After all, it is in this encounter with the origin of questions that thought truly becomes original. Thinking is not just about having new ideas but identifying the causes and ways in which we can interact, transform, and give meaning to our own existence, rooted in the richness of the affections we share.

Possessing knowledge is merely surface level, a technical approach. Knowledge is something we can endlessly accumulate, but thought is an activity that goes beyond the accumulation of information. It is a manifestation of the power of our affections, a noble faculty that gives meaning to every choice we make. Thought, akin to affective philosophy, does not limit itself to objective truths; it delves into the subjective meaning of these truths.

In the science of our existence, we realize that life is composed of continuously virgin moments, successive opportunities for transformation driven by the affections that permeate our journey. We are no longer who we were yesterday, and the only certainty is that we will be different tomorrow, guided by the richness and complexity of the affections we nurture.

In accordance with teachings, we can affirm that, according to Aristotle’s maxim that “If every man is, in some way, responsible for the state in which he lives, he himself will also be, in some way, responsible for how things arise.” This view suggests that we are active agents in constructing our surroundings and therefore co-creators of the circumstances that emerge. Under an ethical approach, I propose the idea of affection as a driving force in our actions. Thus, by recognizing our responsibility in shaping the state in which we live, we are also assuming a share of responsibility in the genesis of the experiences that arise from this context. This interconnection between individual responsibility and the emergence of circumstances is intrinsically linked to the notion of existential freedom, where each choice molds not only the individual but also the world around them. In this sense, it becomes essential to cultivate conscious and meaningful relationships, as it is through them that we exercise our collective responsibility in shaping and transforming the environment we share.

“In the present of existence, affections assume the leading role, delineating the acts of a complex plot that unveils the essence of our relationships and the depth of the human experience.” (Marcello de Souza)

As we expand our consciousness, we embrace a more faithful vision of existence. Self-awareness is intertwined with understanding reality, providing vital discernment to face life’s numerous metamorphoses. The future, far from being a predetermined destination, is a constant act of co-creation, shaped by authentic relationships and validated purposes that we choose to pursue. I understand that seeking a purpose is not following a pre-determined path but actively constructing this journey through conscious choices. The act of defining and pursuing a purpose not only determines who we are as BEING but also inscribes, line by line, a fundamental part of our destiny. However, amidst social transformations, mutable behaviors, and evolving codes, the complexity of dealing with these transpositions arises. It is in this fluid terrain of life that chance manifests, challenging our ability to predict and control.

In accordance with Stoic wisdom, which reminds us of the inevitability of chance, we understand that even in the most carefully woven plots, the unexpected can arise. Thus, the complexity of existence lies not only in adapting to planned changes but also in the ability to face the surprises of chance with resilience and discernment. In moments seemingly beyond our control, constant preparation becomes the safest path, guiding us through uncertainties with the serenity of those who understand that while we cannot avoid chance, we can shape, at least in part, our response to it. Hence arises the complexity of dealing with these transpositions. In moments seemingly beyond our control, it is a reminder that constant preparation and ongoing exercise of choices are essential to move towards a meaningful future.

Anguish and Truth

Anguish, that intrinsic feeling permeating our choices, emerges as a paradox between the confinement and the freedom to choose, echoing existentialist reflections. We understand that anguish is not a burden to be avoided but a companion that urges us to assign value to our decisions. Recognizing the value of our choices is a profound process that demands authentic recognition of who we are—a fundamental condition for true knowledge. In this context, anguish is not just a response to uncertainty but a guide to giving meaning to our actions. Without this knowledge, the ability to assign value is lost, and without value, the search for meaning becomes hollow. Valuing life is an antidote against the traps of automatic decisions, disregarding the uniqueness of our choices. The true expression of deepest values occurs in action, revealing our most intimate intentions and delineating the journey towards a meaningful purpose.

“Just as a river flows incessantly, life unfolds into unexplored paths, challenging us to be navigators of our own journey.” (Marcello de Souza)

The Paradox of Value are the Truths

As we internalize the value of life, we transcend mere existence to attain the fullness of being present. In this journey, we understand that our choices, far from being arbitrarily made, were the only possible manifestations of our being. The beliefs and convictions we embrace are not universal answers but singular reflections of our journey. If we are able to recognize that truths are only for the diminished, there will be a chance to build a harmonious path of constantly evolving possibilities. In a dynamic world, we are incessantly sculpted by a unique trajectory. Accepting the value of life connects us to the fluidity of existence, making us aware of the inevitability of changes as an essential requirement for survival. Each of us is destined to play a distinct role, to be the unique expression of what is unrepeatable, even uncertain, far from any prediction.

Dostoevsky reminds us that: Cages are where certainties dwell. Passively accepted truths confine our lives to a prison that restricts and diminishes the true essence of life. The metaphor resonates deeply by suggesting that by conforming too much to pre-established truths, we imprison ourselves in self-imposed limits, losing the grandeur and fullness of the human experience. As Dostoevsky contends, allowing certainties to become barriers, we cling to a false security that ultimately saddens us, draining us of the will to truly be.

We must constantly feel empowered and encouraged to question, to challenge conventions, and to seek our own understanding, freeing ourselves from the cages that confine us. Amidst life’s changes and challenges, continuous reflection and the courage to challenge our established “truths” become fundamental tools to face uncertainties with wisdom and discernment. Chance, once feared, becomes an integral part of the journey, challenging us to expand the limits of our own unique possibilities.

There is no predefined life proposal, fixed narrative, or definite truth. Commitment to partial constancy directs us towards ephemeral paths, while resistance to choosing authentic trajectories distances us from durability. The ease of following pre-established paths often seduces, but along this path, vices frequently eclipse virtues, and the inclination for shortcuts in living becomes a routine. In our journey, the propensity for vices often outweighs the pursuit of virtues, and the attraction to simpler paths becomes an ingrained habit.

The pursuit of ease, however, encounters its own trap. In our quest for identity, we are confronted by the complex interaction between what we are simply by living and what we construct through effort. If we are truly forging our own path, indifference cannot be tolerated. What we achieve throughout life, our enriching experiences, form an inalienable inner wealth and are the reason we reach the present. Fully experiencing existence is essential, as the superficial pursuit of glory loses all meaning when we realize that appearing as something we are not is an empty illusion. At some point, the desire for recognition loses its value, not due to others’ judgment, but due to our own self-awareness.

Why then do so many yearn for illusions?

Engaging in fantasies, deceiving oneself, is not just lying to oneself; it actually represents an innate survival skill. We live in a universe of beliefs, values, and dreams, where our movements are shaped by expectations and desires. However, this is a limited reality, built upon often illusory ideas. By not dissolving fanciful idealisms and by facing life in a raw and direct manner, we risk harming our relationships, as expectations often prove unattainable, both for ourselves and for others.

Machiavelli’s maxim, “It is necessary to climb mountains to recognize the plains,” although wise, presents a limited view. Climbing mountains gives us a restricted view of the whole. Today, we understand that knowing the plain requires more than distant observation; it requires walking upon it. Life is complex and interconnected, and to truly understand, we need to experience its nuances, challenges, and interrelations. Being present on the plain not only frees us from the shackles of illusion but also offers a more contextualized and complete view of reality.

What is the mystery of “being free,” so often proclaimed but rarely sought?

To be free is to reject the servitude of ignorance, not to be hostage to the actions and impositions of the environment in which we live. True freedom requires discernment, gained by recognizing our sovereignty. We must look inward, exploring our limits and imperfections, not as an easy exercise but as a necessary journey to take control of life. Direct experience on the plain of life allows us to consciously discern, refusing to act as if we do not know why we act in a certain way. It is in living life that we discover the true essence of freedom, escaping the illusions that would otherwise limit us.

Faced with the complexity of existence, Sartre’s wise reflection emerges: “It does not matter what life has made of you, but what you make of what life has made of you.” This perspective invites deep reflection on how we choose to respond to the vicissitudes that life presents us. Each of us is shaped by lived experiences, overcome challenges, and celebrated joys. The true measure of our freedom lies in how we transform the marks of life into strength, adversities into learning, and moments of joy into continuous sources of inspiration. In this space of choice and action, the essence of individual freedom is revealed, highlighting that we are not limited by what life has done to us but rather by what we decide to do with the marks it has left on us.

Each of us weaves our own narrative within the complex fabric of existence. Sartre’s phrase resonates as a powerful reminder that we are the authors of our story, and the importance lies not only in what life offers us but in the choices we make in the face of these gifts and challenges. While life shapes the plot of our journey, we are the curators of the narrative, giving meaning and purpose to the experiences that arise. Taking responsibility for our own story is an act of conscious freedom, an assertion that, despite circumstances, we can transcend and transform our reality.

Therefore, I invite you to view continuous transformation as a living expression of freedom. We are not prisoners of the past; we are architects of our present and future. Each choice, no matter how small, is an opportunity to shape who we are and what we can become. Taking active control of the narrative of our lives is embracing the freedom to sculpt our identity, not just as a reaction to what life has made of us but as a proactivity in creating meaning, growth, and an authentic narrative in constant evolution.

Transparency as a Profound Philosophical Value

In the philosophical sphere, the notion of value transcends mere utility, delving into the depths of ethics and human essence. We must understand that transparency stands as an intrinsic value, a luminous manifestation of authenticity in the journey of self-knowledge. Within this context, value is not reduced to a utilitarian measure but becomes a moral force that permeates our choices and guides our actions. Transparency, by allowing the passage of light, transforms into an ethical beacon, indicating not only external visibility but the internal clarity that illuminates the paths of existence.

I hope this translation meets your expectations. If you need further assistance or have more to discuss, feel free to ask!

We are uninterrupted beings, in constant flux manifesting through successive changes. Yet, we only become aware of these transformations when we are present in the moment. This leads us to recognize once more that absence as a present being often leads us into a servile habit of not living our own choices, yielding to others’ desires. This path, while offering an illusory sense of security, generates phantasms of comfort and daydreams of self-confidence and well-being. Even if temporarily, we are absorbed by the ease of living, externalizing responsibility to the majority or those we admire. However, following the mainstream does not exempt us from judgment, as adhering to the status quo does not justify our actions. In this sense, I invite you to respond to yourself:

  • What does it mean to be continuously evolving? How does this notion of constant transformation influence our choices and our perception of our presence in the world?
  • When addressing absence as a present being, how can we avoid the servile habit of not living our choices for the sake of others’ desires? What is the role of individual responsibility in this context?
  • Reflecting on the concept of responsibility, how can we develop a sharper awareness of the consequences of our actions and omissions, considering also our influence on others’ lives?

I confess that it took me a long time to answer them. Believe me, there were no lack of reasons to justify rather than internalize them. Today, after everything that has brought me here, I can transparently say that “Being continuously evolving” refers to my dynamic and evolving nature of human existence. This idea implies that I am constantly changing, growing, and evolving. My presence in the world is marked by imperfection in the face of successive phases of transformation, and understanding this continuity leads me to recognize the importance of aligning my choices with constant evolution, promoting a deeper and more vulnerable alignment with my true self.

Avoiding the servile habit for me involves developing my critical awareness regarding my choices and intentions. Individual responsibility plays a crucial role in me; it implies owning the authenticity of my decisions, even when they diverge from others’ expectations. This requires courage to live according to my values, even if it means challenging social conventions, thus promoting true individual freedom within me.

Finally, developing a sharper awareness involves deeply reflecting on the implications of my choices. This requires empathy, considering not only the direct consequences for myself but also recognizing the impact on others’ lives. Responsibility extends beyond the individual realm, connecting me to the interdependent web of existence, and cultivating this awareness contributes to my more informed and compassionate ethical action.

And for you, how would you answer these three questions?

The fact is that I have understood throughout this journey of authenticity so far that awakening to the true nature of our existence is essential. By recognizing that we alone are responsible for our destiny, sculpting reality through conscious choices, we free ourselves from the shackles of submission and become masters of our own path. Recognizing that we have the power to actively shape our destiny through conscious choices, we detach ourselves from limiting influences and rise as active builders of our reality. This process of awakening, over the journey, reveals itself as a constant search, a gradual and profound revelation of inner truth that transcends illusions and social constructions.

I have learned that there is no room to justify or blame others for our own choices if we genuinely aspire to build a life grounded in values. By becoming masters of our own path, we affirm our autonomy, and by facing the consequences of our choices, we consolidate our commitment to truth and integrity. Thus, on this journey of authenticity, we discover that true wealth lies in the ability to build a meaningful life aligned with our deepest values.

On the journey towards authenticity, I realize that vanity, with its illusory promises, and the traps of ego, justifications, excuses, cowardice, and greed, lose their influence when confronted with life’s grandeur. Humility emerges as the true virtue, for we understand that these superficial artifices hold no relevance to an authentic life, guided by conscious choices and the constant pursuit of meaning. This is why consciousness, understood as a constant creation, leads us to true freedom, not as an absence of external constraints but as the ability to transcend internal limitations. Only by confronting the reality of who we are, accepting our shadows and lights, can we truly attribute value to our journey.

Thus, making this moment an opportunity to strip away illusions, we open space for authentic resilience. Not as mere resistance but as the ability to reinvent ourselves in the face of adversity, maintaining the integrity of plural thought. Facing life with lucidity is to recognize that, even in the complexity of experiences, there is an intrinsic beauty that reveals itself when we dare to live authentically.

The Path Traveled

Ask ourselves: What brought us to this point in life’s trajectory? I hope it makes sense if I say that if we have arrived here, it is because, in some way, we allowed it; perhaps there have been gains in accepting circumstances, even rhetorically, presenting ourselves as unaware, hypocritically concealing our own responsibilities. We act as if it were a certificate, certifying life’s reasons with the illusory blindness of not truly being who we are.

No matter in what beliefs we choose to place our trust, the core lies in the choices we make in recognizing who we truly are and assuming life’s responsibilities. This omnipresent condition outlines the quality of our relationships with existence. It is relationships, permeated with affection, that outline the real value of life. They give meaning to the relentless pursuit of virtues that make us enhanced beings. The meaning of life is revealed in social connections; we are, by nature, social beings. Relationships and affections constitute the fabric of our path, without which existence would lose its purpose, becoming a mere burden.

The Temporality of Happiness and the Quality of Life

In one way or another, we understand that the true measure of happiness transcends moments of sadness, pain, or suffering. No one experiences happiness continuously, but everyone can recognize the fleeting moments when it manifests. Happiness is timeless, existing for a brief instant but eternally in our thoughts, in our history, and above all, in our relationships. The quality of a successful life lies precisely in the pursuit and construction of these moments, where the value of existence reveals itself in a unique way.

The paradoxes of happy people unfold in the intricacies of suffering, emerging as authentic representations of the meaning of living fully. We extract valuable lessons from pain and suffering, from moments of unhappiness and anguish, thus laying the foundations of a happy life. True understanding of life and happiness emerges when we decipher the meaning of unhappiness. In a world full of similarities, it is differences that confer uniqueness, and if we do not understand the complexity of unhappiness, we limit ourselves to a superficial understanding of life and, consequently, of the true essence of happiness.

Building Resilient Bridges to the Future

The intrinsic meaning of differences lies in the ability of resilient individuals to build bridges between present difficulties and a fuller, well-structured future. These bridges make the present thoughtful, transforming efforts into a sense of joy, making nothing impossible to handle. We recognize that we are plural in essence, singular in a vast universe, and it is imperative to witness and respect the uniqueness of others so that the meaning of life endures as the freedom of our own choices.

We are often dominated by imperative teachings, transforming the essence of life into mere techniques for living. Contrary to this view, we assert that technique is not the domination of nature; it is the domination of the relationship between what we are and what we want to be. If our thoughts shape consciousness, let the experience of living be the practice of witnessing, originating from the accumulation of desires and transformations, impacting new models of thinking about relationships with the world. In this perspective, true freedom reveals itself in the art of balancing the essence of life with the mastery of technique, transcending mere survival to an existence rich in meaning and authenticity.

I hope you now understand that it is in the intricate universe of paradoxes that we find the true complexity of existence, where suffering and happiness intertwine, revealing themselves as two sides of the same coin. By understanding that the authentic value of living lies in the ability to extract profound lessons from the most challenging moments, we become architects of a life genuinely rich in meaning.

By building resilient bridges, we transcend mere survival and embrace the ability to transform adversities into sources of joy. The plurality of our essence, combined with the uniqueness of others, leads to the understanding that differences are the essence of true freedom of choice, giving life a unique and incomparable vibrancy.

In the constant pursuit of meaning, we challenge the imposition of imperative teachings, reclaiming the essence of life from superficial technicality. By recognizing that there is no technique where there is mastery of the relationship between being and wanting to be, we elevate our existence to a level where the art of living harmoniously intertwines with the mastery of reality, in its fullness of feelings, culminating in a life full of authenticity and meaning.

Thus, in this extraordinary mosaic of existence, we discover that true freedom lies in the ability to balance the art of being with the science of becoming.

Now more than ever, it is imperative to confront the experience of suffering for those crushed by the relentless machinery of our models of progress in a perfectible world. Attentively listening to the laments of these oppressed relationships can transform into powerful weapons against our own perception of the world. In this context, we transcend the rhetoric of sustainability, calling for more authentic, true, critical, and revolutionary affections.

Experiences have brought us to where we are now and propel us to seek the construction of an ethics grounded in responsibility and care. Hence, arises the pressing need to discuss and reflect on the role of witnessing in experiencing the freedom of our own existence, emphasizing the importance of being fully present to comprehend the complexities of our relationships.

Our thoughts are the craftsmen of our consciousness, shaping it and thereby constructing the knowledge that guides our existence. The act of thinking is the fundamental reason for our presence in the world, giving meaning to life and unraveling the essence of freedom. In this space of reflection, we have the right not only to believe but to nurture the expectation of miracles. Not in a religious sense, but in the understanding that as unique beings, we possess the ability to accomplish the improbable and the unforeseen. This capacity manifests continuously, even if we are often not fully aware of it. Thus, the true wonder lies in the ability to think to live, transforming the everyday into a constant exercise of overcoming and achievement.

The Reason for the True Miracle

Finally, in our relentless pursuit of meaning, let us believe not only in occasional miracles but in the continuous possibility of achieving the extraordinary. However, do not forget that this true miracle is rooted in the ability to think to live, in the freedom to explore improbability and the unknown. Belief in our uniqueness empowers us to achieve remarkable feats, challenging preconceived limitations. Thus, the act of thinking to live transcends the boundaries of the common, standing out as the true source of miracles in our lives.

In the complex fabric of existence, always remember the preciousness of the present, an unparalleled gift unfolding before the vicissitudes of the journey and the intricate weaving of time. In the wise words of Daniel Munduruku, “If the current time were not good, it would not be called the present. It is the only gift we have.”

By immersing yourself in this space of reflection, transcend the linearity of time, capturing the richness of the present moment. This is the gift that has been granted to us, the sole instant over which we have control. Believe, it is in this moment that we find the opportunity to rebuild affections, reconsider our relationships, and shape our narrative of freedom. Confronting experiences, paradoxes, and challenges, we are called to witness our own lives with authenticity and responsibility. The thoughts we build resonate in the consciousness we shape, guiding us in the relentless search for meaning.

In the complexity of existence, may this article echo as an awakening, a provocation that resonates beyond words. Therefore, in this intricate temporal play, where past and future dance in the evanescence of the present, I urge you to question: are we truly free when we seek in others the reins of our desires?

Each thought is an act of creation, each choice a sculpture of our destiny. Uncover the audacity to forge your path, breaking free from dependence on others. For in every trace of the journey, arises the opportunity to unleash true miracles and build a present that does not submit to the shadows of others’ use.

Celebrate uniqueness, uncover authentic freedom, and embrace the fullness of life, not as a mere spectator but as the courageous protagonist of your own presentation. May each choice be an act of rebellion against conformity, a testimony of authenticity, and may, at the end of this reflection, you find yourself emancipated, unraveling the magic of being the master of your desires without needing to rely on others for your achievements.
