Luc Ferry aborda em seu livro O que é uma vida bem-sucedida? Como as sociedades contemporâneas nos incitam a pensar o “êxito” ao modo do devaneio. Sonho de posse. Logo os valores se tornaram subjetivos durante os séculos. Para Ferry é o “indivíduo que tem que entender o que é uma vida bem-sucedida, ele tem que julgar diante a suas próprios valores e razões que traga a felicidade e a renda necessária para viver. O problema é se libertar do julgamento do mundo, entre as necessidades individuais e aquelas que o mundo quer que você tenha.”
Para superar as pressões que o mundo atual impõe é necessário basear-se nos próprios valores e é fato que cada pessoa tem seus próprios valores, que são sempre únicos e exclusivos e que está diretamente interligado as próprias ações de escolha definidas durante a vida, formando quem você é agora. Você é a representação de seus valores, consequentemente seus valores representa sua própria história.
As escolhas da vida tornam-se cada momento a necessidade de escolher o melhor caminho, uma decisão sempre árdua e angustiante. O melhor significa o que vale mais, por isto não existe vida humana sem valor e o homem nasce freneticamente na busca de valores, procurando aquilo que representa valer mais para si mesmo. Definitivamente sem valor não há significado para sua existência humana. Os valores são intrínsecos a moral, e só é possível encontrar a moral da vida se houver amadurecimento com as experiências vivenciadas e que de alguma forma servem de parâmetro para que se possa identificar a alternativas comparativas daquilo que faz mais sentido a si mesmo.
